EdgeMo Privacy Policy
Last updated: 20 June 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information EdgeMo collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. It is written in plain language because many of our users are secondary-school students.
EdgeMo is operated by Panoramic IT Solutions, Ghana (“EdgeMo”, “we”, “us”, “our”). We are the data controller responsible for your information. We handle personal data in line with Ghana’s Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843).
If you have any questions, contact us at privacy@edgemoapp.com.
1. Who this app is for
EdgeMo is a learning app for West African secondary-school students, beginning in Ghana. It is intended for students aged 13 and over. When you first use EdgeMo we ask for your year of birth to confirm you are old enough; if you are under 13 you cannot create an account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are under 18, you should use EdgeMo with the permission of a parent or guardian.
If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact privacy@edgemoapp.com and we will delete it.
2. Information we collect
We try to collect as little as possible, and much of it is optional. You can use core parts of EdgeMo with an anonymous account — you are not required to give us your real name or email to get started.
a) Account and profile
- An anonymous account identifier and a support code (used to help you recover your account or get support).
- Your year of birth, collected once to confirm you are at least 13. We do not need your full date of birth.
- Optional information you choose to add: display name, avatar, phone number (verified by a one-time code), school name, and region.
b) Learning and education data
- Your education level (e.g. JHS or SHS), form/grade, study track, subjects, and learning goals.
- Your activity in the app: questions answered, practice and mock-exam results, scores, time spent, and which topics you view.
c) Content you submit
- The text of questions you ask, your typed answers, and photos of handwritten answers that you choose to upload so the app can read and mark them.
d) Payments
- Purchases of credits are processed by Google Play Billing. You pay Google using your own payment method (for example MTN Mobile Money, Telecel Cash, or a bank card). We do not collect or store your mobile-money number, card details, or other payment credentials. We receive a confirmation that a purchase was made so we can add credits to your account. Google’s handling of your payment information is governed by Google’s Privacy Policy.
e) Device and technical data
- A device identifier, device name, platform and operating-system version, app version, and screen size — used to keep you signed in across devices and to fix problems.
- App-security settings such as your app-lock PIN and whether biometric unlock is enabled. These are stored on your device, not on our servers in readable form.
f) Analytics and diagnostics
- Usage events (for example, that a practice session started), which are linked to your account identifier — not to your name — to help us understand how the app is used and improve it. Because these are linked to your account identifier, we treat them as personal data, not as fully anonymous data.
- Crash and error reports to help us fix bugs. We remove personal details (such as any email, name, or login tokens) from these reports before they are sent.
What we do not collect
We do not collect your GPS location, contacts, call or SMS history, microphone audio, or clipboard data. The camera is used only when you choose to photograph an answer.
3. How we use your information
We use your information to: - Provide the learning service — show content, run practice and timed mocks, power the AI tutor, and mark your answers (including reading handwritten answers). - Confirm you are old enough to use EdgeMo (using your year of birth). - Create and manage your account and keep you signed in across devices. - Verify your phone number (by sending a one-time code) if you choose to add one. - Add credits to your account after a purchase. - Understand and improve how the app works, using usage analytics. - Diagnose crashes, keep the app secure, and provide app-lock features. - Send you service messages (for example, a verification code). We only send SMS or email when you take an action that requires it.
We rely on your consent, on the need to perform our service to you, and on our legitimate interest in running and improving a safe, working app, as lawful bases for using your data.
4. Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run EdgeMo, and only as needed. We describe them by category rather than by name; a current list of our providers is available on request at privacy@edgemoapp.com.
- AI service providers — to power the tutor, mark practice answers, and read handwritten answers (OCR), we send the text of your questions and your answer images to trusted third-party AI providers. They process this data only on our instructions to deliver these features, may be located outside Ghana, and do not use it to train their own models.
- Payments — purchases are processed by Google Play Billing. We do not receive your full payment details; we receive a transaction confirmation so we can add credits to your account.
- SMS provider — to deliver one-time verification codes, if you verify a phone number.
- Email provider — to send transactional emails, where this is enabled.
- Analytics provider — to receive usage events that help us improve the app.
- Crash-diagnostics provider — to receive error reports with personal details removed.
- Hosting and infrastructure provider — to securely store the app’s data.
- Legal, safety, and safeguarding — we may use or disclose information if required by law, to enforce our terms, or where we reasonably believe it is necessary to protect the safety of a student or another person.
5. International transfers
Some of our service providers (for example, analytics and AI providers) are located outside Ghana. Where your information is transferred abroad, we take reasonable steps to ensure it continues to be protected to a standard consistent with the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843).
6. How long we keep your information
- Account and profile data — kept while your account is active. If your account is inactive for 24 months, we delete or anonymise it. You can ask us to delete it at any time (see Section 8).
- Learning and usage data — kept while your account is active; we keep anonymised, aggregated data (which can no longer identify you) to improve the app.
- Payment and transaction records — the purchase records we hold are kept for 6 years to meet financial, tax, and audit requirements under Ghanaian law.
- One-time verification codes — expire within 10 minutes of being issued.
- Crash and diagnostic reports — retained for 12 months.
- Usage analytics — retained for 24 months, then deleted or aggregated.
When you ask us to delete your account, we complete deletion within 30 days and remove your data from our backups within a further 90 days.
7. How we protect your information
We use industry-standard safeguards, including encryption in transit (HTTPS) for data sent between the app and our servers, secure on-device storage for sign-in tokens and your app-lock PIN, and access controls on our systems. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and review our practices regularly.
8. Your rights and choices
Under the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843), you have the right to: - Access the personal information we hold about you. - Correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete. - Delete your account and personal information. - Object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@edgemoapp.com or use our data-deletion page at https://edgemoapp.com/data-deletion.
Parents and guardians: if you are the parent or guardian of a student who uses EdgeMo, you may contact us to access, correct, or delete your child’s information.
You may also lodge a complaint with Ghana’s Data Protection Commission if you believe we have not handled your information properly.
9. Children and teens
EdgeMo is designed for students aged 13 and over and is appropriate for a teenage audience. We limit the information we collect from young users, do not show third-party advertising, and do not use student data for advertising purposes.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date above and, where the change is significant, we will let you know in the app.
